This morning at 9AM, dozens of hospital workers and their relatives met at Nalerigu’s main station for an act of community service. They swept and raked up all the trash in the town’s central area and cut the grass around the paramount chief’s palace. Drummers followed along and kept up a constant rhythm to help motivate the volunteers.
This afternoon’s 50th anniversary event was a parade through Nalerigu led by the BMC employees. The workers all wore their new BMC 50th t-shirts and ball caps. Drummers accompanied the crowd the entire way as they marched down to the chief’s palace, by the 1st Baptist Church, and back to the hospital.
Today marked the beginning of the festivities for the hospital’s 50th anniversary celebration. At 7AM, hospital employees and honored guests attended devotions at the OPD building. After devotions, the statue of BMC founder Dr. George Faile II was unveiled to reveal a new paint job. It is a very colorful addition to the original bust.
This is an exciting week in Nalerigu, Ghana. BMC is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will be having activities and festivities all week long. The week’s events will lead up to a huge celebration on Saturday and a special thanks giving service on Sunday. We will be posting photos of the celebration on this blog throughout the week.
