Most of the setup for the big event on Saturday was done the previous afternoon. However, a huge thunderstorm rolled through in the early morning hours and blew over the chairs, tents, and decorations. As a result, the program began quite late on Saturday morning as workers and volunteers scrambled to set every thing up again. Thank you everyone who pitched in!

A collection of old BMC photos as well as recent photos by William Haun were exhibited in the out patient department (OPD) on Friday. Several past BMC doctors and nurses that were featured in the photos have returned to celebrate the 50th anniversary. You can see many of the photos in the Media section of this website (on second slideshow screen under “From the BMC Scrapbook”).

The Mamprusi tribe has an annual festival called Damba where they have a huge dance. This evening the town’s drummers & dancers came out and performed those dances on the hospital grounds. After several rounds of watching the “pros” dance, some of the “not-so-pro” foreigners joined in the fun.

Today’s big event was a series of fun activities for the ladies at BMC. Held on the hospital football park, the women had spoon&egg races, sack races, tug of war, and more. A very large crowd turned out to watch the fun.

This morning at 9AM, dozens of hospital workers and their relatives met at Nalerigu’s main station for an act of community service. They swept and raked up all the trash in the town’s central area and cut the grass around the paramount chief’s palace. Drummers followed along and kept up a constant rhythm to help motivate the volunteers.
